The Idolmaster (アイドルマスター Aidorumasutā?, officially romanized as THE iDOLM@STER) is an arcade game and console music rhythm game released only in Japan by Namco (now Namco Bandai) on July 26,2005. It was released on the Xbox 360 on January 25, 2007. The game follows the career of a producer who works for the fictional 765 Production studio and has to work with a selection of ten prospective pop Japanese idols. A spinoff game titled THE iDOLM@STER: Live for You! was released on February 28, 2008[1], and a sequel set of games, THE iDOLM@STER SP, were released on February 19, 2009.

Xbox 360 release

The Idolm@ster has been credited with making Japan's ratio of Xbox Live sign-ups to the number consoles sold the highest in the world.[2] Over four times as many Microsoft points were sold on the date of THE iDOLM@STER 360 release as on the date before it.[2]

Differences from the Arcade Version

  • There is additional content, such as new songs and a tenth idol.
  • It is no longer necessary to have a Producer Card or Idol Cards because all the data is saved in the memory of the Xbox 360.
  • Due to the lack of a touch screen interface, the Lesson mini-games were changed.
  • There is no longer a time limit within which you must raise your Idol Rank to prevent the retirement concert.
  • There is also no longer a time limit when choosing songs or outfits.
  • Text messages from the idols are no longer sent to your actual phone, and you read them on an in-game phone instead.
  • The character models were redone from scratch for the Xbox 360 version, making the models from the arcade version seems more unpolished and "yellowish" in comparison.
